From Rock Bottom to Rebuilt

Addiction nearly killed me. Sobriety taught me how to build a life instead.

Hi, I'm Evan. I'm a GTM Engineer & Enablement Leader by day and, more importantly, someone who's been sober since October 23, 2021. Before that, addiction cost me everything. My job, my apartment, my car, my relationships, and nearly my life. I recently achieved my NASM Personal Training Certification with specialties in nutrition coaching and corrective exercise, because I want to build a career around the thing that actually saved mine: proof that people can change.

  1. Teens to twenties

    Addiction takes the wheel

What started as experimenting became dependence. A DUI at 19. Lost jobs, lost friendships, lost trust. Alcohol and cocaine ran my decisions for over a decade, no matter how many times the consequences piled up.

  2. 2017

    Four felony charges

Arrested for stealing from a friend's bar to fund my addiction, facing decades in prison. It still wasn't the bottom.

  3. 2018–2019

    Losing everything material

My car got repossessed. I got evicted. My life kept shrinking while I kept drinking.

  4. 2020

    False starts

A string of 30- to 90-day sobriety attempts, each followed by a harder relapse. Proof that willpower alone wasn't going to fix this.

  5. October 2021

    Rock bottom

Physically dependent on alcohol, unable to function without it, and completely out of people who hadn't already given up on me. My family and a handful of strangers from the internet rallied to get me help. It failed. I relapsed again.

  6. October 23, 2021

    I chose to stay

Walked into an AA meeting a week later, a total wreck. A stranger told me, "You don't ever have to feel this way again if you don't want to." That night I decided to try. This date became my sobriety date, and I haven't picked up a drink or drug since.

  7. 2022–2024

    Rebuilding, brick by brick

Went to meetings daily, sometimes twice a day. Paid off six figures of debt. Watched my felony charges get dismissed and expunged. Lost 50 pounds and about 15% body fat. Built a career I'm proud of as a Product Enablement Lead at Spring Health.

  8. Today

    Building something bigger

4+ years sober and counting. Started doing Personal Training with specialties in nutrition coaching and corrective exercise. Working toward coaching people in my own gyms built around real transformation, not just aesthetics.

What I want you to take from this

"If you're in the middle of your own mess right now, I need you to hear this: it doesn't have to be the end of your story either."
